The Mary Ann and Jack Gibbons Hall of Music and the Doris Duke Wall Choral Room, which opened in September 2007, offers SI's Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Symphonic Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra a place to practice and perform. Built in 1994, the Wiegand Theatre is a flexible black box space that can be used for plays and dance performances and rehearsals and even for guest speakers. Its state-of-the-art soundproof tech room is a great place for students to learn about the production side of the theatre world.

The Student Activities Center is home to the offices of Magis, Athletics, Community Service, the vice principal for student affairs and the director of equity and inclusion as well as the bookstore, the SI Prep Shop and Jensen Chapel. This is a central hub of the school where students congregate whenever they don't have class. It also provides easy access to the library, the main school building, the gym complex and the Columbus Piazza.

The Orradre Chapel, located in the Nejasmich Campus Ministry Center, is the spiritual heart of our school where we come to pray, mourn and celebrate, all in the presence of God. The chapel features 12 faceted glass windows that were installed in 1970 by Carl Huneke, who created windows for more than 70 California churches after moving to San Francisco from Achim bei Bremen in Germany. The chapel is named for Stephen Orradre, who died in a car accident in 1964.

Thanks to the Genesis V: New Horizons campaign, in 2007, the school has added five new classrooms built over an underground batting center. The five classrooms in the new wing use indirect fluorescent lighting that reflects off the ceiling in order to reduce glare, and two of the windows offer dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean and J.B. Murphy Field.

The Bannan Theatre, named for the Bannan brothers who graduated from SI and who started the Western Gear Corporation, is the first theatre built at the 2001 campus. It was updated in 2006 with new seats that can transform the room into a large lecture hall. Legendary Chronicle columnist Herb Caen once attended a 1987 production of My Fair Lady and called it "the best entertainment in town." The list of actors, dancers, musicians, directors, screenwriters and theatre tech alumni from SI's Performing Arts department will astound you. They have won Tony and Emmy Awards, and they have appeared on Broadway and on film, written for Hollywood blockbusters and starred on TV shows.

The Alfred S. Wilsey Library provides students and faculty with a wide variety of digital, online and print material, including subscription databases, expert summary of website services relevant to curriculum and projects, as well as 18,000 books and other primary sources. The library website offers book trailers and book reviews online as well as 24/7 access from home. Students can also check out laptops, digital cameras, camcorders, tripods, calculators, Bluetooth keyboards, noise cancelling headphones and support material for school. Students also have access to 32 computers, a scanner, a photocopy machine and three printers. The Library has two librarians and a tech support staff to partner with faculty and assist student with all their information needs.

Boris Koodrin '67 painted the Spiritus Magis mural as part of the school's 150-year anniversary. It both depicts the school's storied history and challenges students to find new ways of seeking knowledge. Look carefully at the mural for the many riddles, symbols and people that teach us lessons about what it means to be an Ignatian.

Students enjoy recess and lunch in the Carlin Commons and attend other events here, such as dances and prayer services. The school also uses the commons for parent meetings, the All-Class Reunion and the President's Cabinet Dinner. It is named for Rev. Harry V. Carlin, S.J. '35, SI's former president who moved SI to the Sunset District from the school's fifth location on Stanyan Street.

This computer lab is home to SITV, a co-curricular activity that gives students a chance to tell the stories of SI through video, photos and musical montages. All multimedia and computer courses are taught here, as well, and the space has become a center of student innovation and creativity for the entire campus.

The Magis Office is home to the Magis Program, which offers comprehensive academic, social and cultural support for both middle school and high school students from under-represented backgrounds, including students who will be first in their family to go to college, who are low-income and/or who are traditionally under-represented in higher education. Programs run in the summer and throughout the school year.

Designed by SI art teacher Katie Wolf to represent the four elements of earth, air, water and fire, the Jensen Chapel offers a place for daily morning liturgy and quiet meditation and reflection during the school day.

Named for SI's longtime athletic director and 50-year veteran teacher who retired in 1989, the J.B. Murphy Field is home to Wildcat football, lacrosse, field hockey, soccer and track and field athletes. The person who supervised the 2002 remodel of the field is Brad Klung '79, who also supervised the construction of AT&T Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants. The project cost $2.3 million to widen the field and install artificial turf, allowing students to play in all kinds of weather.

In order to outfit the new batting center, SI bought the nets, pitching machines and pitching mounds from the same vendors used by the Giants for AT&T Park. (In fact, the dimensions of both batting centers is the same.) The batting center's walls are painted blue in order to help batters better see white baseballs.

Thanks to a gift from SI parents Monica Devereux and filmmaker Christopher Columbus, SI now offers students a wonderful place to relax during recess, at lunch and after school. The piazza, located above the Choral Room, offers a great vantage point to watch games played on J. B. Murphy Field as well as a view of the Pacific Ocean. Students can both relax on the Columbus Piazza and do a little work, as the school's wireless network extends to this outdoor space. You won't see any drains atop the piazza, as they are hidden beneath the tiled floor.

SI joined its first city tennis league in 1910 and won its first league tennis championship in 1928 in the city's Academic Athletic League. Students have continued winning ever since. From 1989 to the present day, they have played on four Sunset District courts that are now named for the Brusati, Christen, Kelleher and Kitt families, were built in 1989 as part of the Genesis III campaign.

The Herbst Natatorium, with its eight-lane pool built in 1994, has offered students the opportunity to swim for PE classes or just for fun. They can also compete on the swimming and diving teams or on the water polo teams or serve as instructors and lifeguards for swim classes offered in the summers and on weekends. Neighbors may also use the pool for recreational and competitive swimming. Aquatics Director Diane Davis and several of her friends once competed against (and beat!) a team of Navy Seals in a swim from the Golden Gate to Emeryville in the Bay.

Walk through the Alfred J. Cleary Plaza into the main academic building with its 50 classrooms, art studio, multimedia lab and counseling center. This campus, the sixth in the school's 150-year history, has been home to Ignatians since 1969. Many visitors to SI say that the school reminds them of a small college than a high school. SI may seem big, but very soon students find their own place with all the clubs and teams they can join. Many of our grads say that their best friends are the ones they made at SI. Ninety-six SI grads lost their lives in World War II, as did many grads at Sacred Heart Cathedral College Preparatory. To commemorate their sacrifice, SI started a new tradition in 1946 named for Jerry Mahoney from SHC and Bill Bruce from SI, two of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Since then, the school that wins two of the three big games in football, basketball and baseball takes the trophy home for the year. Even before 1946, the two schools have had a friendly rivalry, one that started in 1893 with a rugby game, marking the start of the oldest high school competition west of the Rockies.

The Murphy Pavilion is where the Wall of Champions lives. It lists the names and awards of all Wildcat teams that have had league, sectional or state honors in the school's long history. You'll also find a tribute to NFL Hall of Fame QB Dan Fouts '69 in the Pavilion Lobby. The space is named for the man who served as chairman of SI's Board of Regents in the 1990s and as one of the school's first lay trustees. The Pavilion is home to McCullough Gymnasium and the Drucker Court — our basketball court named for legendary coach Bob Drucker '58.

Students can sign up for the weight training classes or for the Wildcat Readiness Program while off-season or train with the weights when their sports are in season. It served as the school's only indoor athletic facility until the construction of McCullough Gym in 1994. The varsity basketball team used this facility to win nine league championships before moving next door. The gym is still used for basketball, volleyball and intramurals. The two gyms give SI room for the seven basketball and five volleyball teams to practice and compete.

Students create and showcase a variety of visual fine arts in the Fritz Family Fine Arts Wing. They learn painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, architecture and photography and take interdisciplinary courses such as Sacred Symbols and Art in Nature. Walk inside the art studio and you will be astounded by the creative energy and creativity of the students.

The schools 50 classrooms were remodeled in the summer of 2006 when workers installed better lighting, digital presenters, drop-down screens, adjustable seating and acoustical paneling. We can thank SI's first lay principal Charles Dullea '65 and the first woman administrator, assistant principal Kate Kodros, for this transformation.

The Sources of Strength room houses a program that involves counselors and students helping students learn to nurture key areas that help them deal with the challenges of being a teenager. Those areas include spirituality, medical access, mental health, family support, positive friends, mentors, healthy activities and generosity. Students hold several activities throughout the year to encourage students to recognize what and who are their sources of strength.

The Carl and Celia Berta Gellert Counseling Center (named in honor of Peter and Alberta Brusati) provides a home for SI's personal and academic counselors, its college counselors and the Wellness Program.
