Drop Off, Pickup & Parking

SI Traffic and Parking Plan

We have implemented a southbound direction only procedure with respect to student drop off and pick up. These procedures are implemented for student and pedestrian safety. The plan is designed to eliminate double parking, reduce traffic back-up on Sunset Blvd., and prevent car accidents and injuries caused by backups and students jaywalking and/or darting between traffic. 

Please follow directions given by the SI guards. Do not double park in traffic lanes, stop in the cross-walks or bus zone, as these actions back up traffic and are prohibited by law.  

Morning Drop-Off

As an attempt to ease congestion and improve traffic flow, SI security is implementing a new plan for morning drop off.

We have two drop-off zones, one in front of the McCullough Gymnasium entrance (south drop off) and the other in front of the New Learning Commons construction area (north drop off).

  • Until 8:45 a.m., traffic will flow through 37th Ave, from Pacheco to Rivera, utilizing those dedicated areas to drop off. Please stay to the right and pull in and pull forward as far as possible. Drop off your student and exit out of the coned area.
  • At 8:45 a.m., the south drop off zone may only be accessed by left turn at 37th and Quintara. No right turns onto 37th Ave. will be allowed until 9 a.m. That means that from 8:45–9 a.m., 37th Ave. between Pacheco and Quintara will be closed to through traffic.
  • When entering 37th Ave. from Pacheco, please follow the signs to pull right into the drop off zone. As you pull forward and exit, use the designated U-turn area to return northbound back to Pacheco. You will not be able to drive through 37th Ave. from Pacheco to Quintara.

We have found this alleviates traffic congestion at 37th and Quintara and discourages jaywalking, creating a safer passage for students crossing at that intersection.

After school pickup remains the same as it was previously. The white curb in front of McCullough Gymnasium is a designated pickup area. Please pull forward, as sometimes vehicles are waiting for students to exit. The cones are spaced so vehicles may exit from any point in the zone.

Guards will be outside assisting with traffic flow. Please follow their directions as well as adhering to posted signs. Be prepared to drop your student off expeditiously as cars do stack up and the idea is to keep everything flowing. If you use a driverless service, such as Waymo, we ask that you give them the Rivera gate address, 2798 Rivera. Because of the driverless feature we cannot provide direction or get these vehicles to move as needed. The Rivera gate address allows drop off and pickup to occur away from traffic flow.

For at least the fall semester of 2026, morning drop off on 37th Ave. will only be allowed between Quintara and Rivera Streets due to construction activity on 37th Ave. between Quintara and Pacheco. Below is the traffic plan, and please follow all directions given by SI Security, who will be out directing vehicles.

Cars that come from Quintara onto southbound 37th Ave. will have a drop off zone on the west side of the street, directly in front of the school. From 8:45-9 a.m., after drop off:

  • Cars must proceed to the end of the block and turn right on Rivera, toward 38th Ave.
  • Cars may then turn left onto 38th Ave. or continue straight west bound on Rivera.
  • There will be no U-turn allowed at 38th Ave. and Rivera, and drop off will remain prohibited on that block.

Cars that come from Rivera onto northbound 37th Ave. will have a drop off zone on the east side of the street, across from the school. After drop off:

  • Vehicles must continue northbound until turning right on Quintara.
  • For everyone's safety, students must cross 37th Ave. in the crosswalks at the ends of the block.

Special note about autonomous vehicles: Self-driving cars will not be able to handle these adjustments, and our previous experience is that they hinder traffic during morning drop off. If your student is arriving in an autonomous vehicle, please specify a drop off location away from 37th Ave.

We thank families for your cooperation and patience. Because we anticipate heavy traffic at the school from 8:45–9 a.m., please consider if alternative drop off plans will work for your student, such as arriving earlier, taking public transportation, bicycling, or walking from several blocks away.

Prohibited

Double parking or stopping in the traffic lane are prohibited for drop off/pick up of students between Pacheco and Riviera on 37th Ave, as well as on Rivera St. between Sunset Blvd. and 39th Ave.  Students will be subject to detention if observed exiting double parked vehicles and/or jaywalking along 37th Ave.

Keep Traffic Moving

If you find insufficient room to pull into the drop-off zones, please drive around the block and re-enter the drop-off zones when space is available. Do not make U-turns along 37th Ave. or at the intersections. 

Afternoon Co-curricular Pickup at 6 P.M.

ALL P.M. PICKUP — GYM ZONE ONLY: 2:30-7 p.m., MONDAY-SATURDAY

Drivers are to approach school via the southbound direction only between Quintara and Rivera Streets.  Move forward and enter your vehicle promptly.  Do not wait or park in Bus Zone. Buses used for commuting, practices, games and retreats need to be able to park in the bus zone.

Parking

Students who drive to school are required to display a student parking permit, regardless where they park while at school. Parking on 37th Ave. between Pacheco and Quintara Streets is reserved for FACULTY/STAFF ONLY. All student drivers must register for the parking permit and display them on their driver-side front windshields. This has proven to be beneficial in identifying student cars about to be towed for illegal parking or blocking our neighbors' driveways.  The average cost of a citation and tow is $600.

The school garage under the tennis courts is restricted to Faculty/Staff only between 6 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Speed Limits

All streets adjacent to the school campus are designated as 15 MPH SCHOOL ZONE when students are present. Please watch your speed! Note that speed bumps are now in place on 37th Ave. between Quintara and Rivera Sts.
